Eiríksstaðir

Home of Erik the Red and birthplace of Leif Eriksson

One of the most historically significant sites in Iceland!

At Eiriksstadir you step back to the Viking Era and immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and scents of Eirik the Red´s farm and the birthplace of Leif Eriksson (Leif the Lucky) who discovered North America.

Experience the sagas for yourself as modern-day Vikings demonstrate the lifestyles from 1000 years ago and share their crafts and special knowledge. Visit the replica house and see authentic ruins from a longhouse and roundhouse.

Visitors to the longhouse are welcomed by guides in Viking-Age costume.

In Leifsbúð, Cultural house you can find an exhibition dedicated to the voyages of discovery made by Eirik the Red and his son Leif the Lucky.

There is a model of Thjodhildar church in Greenland and the Vinlands tapestry which tells the story of Leif in Vinland. There is also a internet café and tourist info.
